Atomoxetin je hrazen k léčbě hyperkinetické poruchy (ADHD) u dospělých jako součást komplexního léčebného programu. U dospělých by měly být potvrzeny příznaky ADHD přetrvávající již z dětství, je vhodné potvrzení třetí stranou a léčba atomoxetinem by neměla být zahájena, pokud je ověření příznaků ADHD v dětství nejisté. Diagnóza byla stanovena podle platných kritérií DSM, popřípadě MKN, při hodnotě skóre stupnice CGI-S (Globální klinický dojem – závažnost onemocnění) minimálně 4 body a onemocnění vede k alespoň středně závažným funkčním postižením ve dvou a více oblastech (např. sociální, akademické a/nebo pracovní fungování), které ovlivňují několik oblastí života jedince. Kontrola účinnosti léčby je provedena po 12 týdnech, pokud nedošlo k dostatečné terapeutické odpovědi definované jako redukce skóre na škále CGI-S o alespoň 2 body, není léčba dále hrazena.
