Idebenon je hrazen k léčbě poruch zraku u pacientů starších 12 let s geneticky potvrzenou diagnózou Leberovy hereditární optické neuropatie, u kterých již došlo k projevům onemocnění (snížení zrakové ostrosti, centrální skotom). Léčba musí být zahájena nejpozději do 18 měsíců od manifestace projevů onemocnění na druhém oku. Účinnost léčby se přehodnotí po 12 měsících podávání idebenonu, a pokud není zraková ostrost stabilizována (tzn. pokud došlo k progresi do log MAR větší nebo rovno 1), je léčba ukončena. U pacientů se stabilizovanou zrakovou ostrostí léčba pokračuje dalších 12 months. Maximální délka hrazené léčby je 24 months.
