Tetrabenazin je hrazen u pacientů s Huntingtonovou chorobou, kde z motorického hlediska dominuje chorea závažného stupně, která významně brání v jídle, spánku nebo osobní obsluze, pokud je z medicínského hlediska vyloučeno použít tiaprid (závažné nežádoucí účinky, kontraindikace, neúčinnost terapie tiapridem), a to výhradně v případech, kde není přítomna aktuální závažná deprese, agresivita či psychotické stavy. Léčba se ukončí v případě projevů intolerance (např. alergie) nebo nežádoucích účinků, které nelze zvládnout jejich léčbou nebo snížením dávky tetrabenazinu (např. deprese) a dále v případě, kdy po alespoň 3 měsících podávání tetrabenazinu nebylo dosaženo klinicky významné změny, nebo v případě, kdy v klinickém obraze onemocnění začne dominovat dystonie nebo parkinsonský syndrom.
