Léčba se ukončí v případě projevů intolerance (např. alergie) nebo nežádoucích účinků, které nelze zvládnout jejich léčbou nebo snížením dávky tetrabenazinu (např. deprese) a dále v případě, kdy po alespoň 3 měsících podávání tetrabenazinu nebylo dosaženo klinicky významné změny, nebo v případě, kdy v klinickém obraze onemocnění začne dominovat dystonie nebo parkinsonský syndrom.
